Tasting for Charity
Giving back is delicious at Ambassador Hotel
On April 25, the Ambassador Hotel in Midtown is kicking off a new, hopefully monthly event called A Taste for Charity. The designated recipient this month is Other Options, an organization that provides food, resources, services and HIV/AIDS education to those affected by HIV and AIDS. Most of the individuals helped by Other Options are living at or below poverty, and all are either suffering from HIV/AIDS or have a family member who is.
The event will feature French wine and food, some of which is a preview of the menu at the new Café Cuvee – that’s the name chosen for the redesign of Ambassador’s current restaurant, Viceroy Grille. The restaurant construction is expected to begin before summer, and current estimates have the new concept opening in late summer or early fall. Both Viceroy Grille and O Bar (the hotel’s rooftop bar) are sponsoring A Taste for Charity.
Restaurant manager Lana Gowdy said that every event would be structured to raise money for a charity, and to give people an outstanding experience of the hotel.
“We will host the events in the Heritage Room on the top floor,” Gowdy says. “It has a rooftop balcony just like O Bar, and we want people to see a part of the hotel they may not have experienced before, and we want them to have a great food and wine experience, too. We will look to expand A Taste for Charity, including a different charity and a different focus on food and beverage – wine, beer, spirits, etc. – hopefully every month.”
Thirst Wine Merchants, an Oklahoma City brokerage, chose the wines for the event, and they include sparkling, rose, white and red from some of France’s best-known regions: Bordeaux, Burgundy and Rhone Valley, among others. Chef Taylor Desjarlais is preparing light hors d’oeuvres for the event, and the menu includes tartlets, skewers, pastries, cheeses and macarons.
A Taste for Charity is structured as a come-and-go experience, and tickets are $40 in advance and at the door. The cocktail party format runs from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tickets are available on Eventbrite via the event Facebook page, or by calling 405.600.6200.
