Description

A Texas State of Mind, featuring the art of Larry G. Lemons of Nocona, TX, is coming to the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center in Duncan, OK.

A meet the artist reception will be 3:30 - 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 11, at the Heritage Center.

As author John Steinbeck said, “Texas is a state of mind. Texas is an obsession. Above all, Texas is a nation in every sense of the word.” Lemons created his brand around that quote.

“The icons of Texas and the great southwest make up my artistic arsenal,” Lemons said. “I have taken colorful and iconic images and wrapped them in a package that I call ‘A Texas State of Mind.’ If you look closely, you will see such universal themes as family values, patriotism, faith, humor, nostalgia and maybe more.”

Lemons and his wife Donna Rose, own and operate a gallery in Nocona. Lemons was once a dedicated photographer, having even earned his Master Craftsman title. Switching gears along the way, he went from photography to painting, including teaching art to students in the public school system.

It seems to have worked out well for him. His list of shows dates back to 1998 and includes multiple awards, calendar publishing, feature articles by magazines, television and newspapers.

Chisholm Trail Heritage Center is open 7 days a week. It is an official "Best Heritage Attraction," an Oklahoma Outstanding Attraction, a National Day of the Cowboy 'Cowboy Keeper" and a Top Ten Western Museum - True West Magazine.
