APRIL 17TH – 19TH: SCISSORTAIL SPORTS Spring Soccer Camp at Scissortail Park. Meet at Soccer Field, Lower Park. Led by Adrian Ables of Element Soccer, the 3-day camp for kids ages 6-12 year old will teach the basics and helpful drills to improve soccer skills. Cost: $60 per child. Registration includes a 3-day camp fee and an official Scissortail Sports T-shirt.

Fireflies at Carpenter Square Theatre. Matthew Barber’s romantic comedy, “Fireflies,” buzzes into Carpenter Square Theatre April 5-27, 2024, continuing the downtown theater’s Season The charming play centers around a retired spinster in a small south Texas town. Performances on the Inasmuch Foundation Stage at the theater’s new venue located at 1009 W. Reno, just east of the intersection of Western and Reno. Specific performance dates and times over four weekends are: 8 p.m. April 5-6. 12-13. 19-20, and 26-27; 7:30 p.m. April 18 and 25 with one 2 p.m. matinee on April 21.

 

“Ennio” at OKCMOA Film. From the director of ‘Cinema Paradiso,’ this inspiring and encyclopedic documentary portrait of influential movie maestro Ennio Morricone offers a definitive look back at the Oscar-winning composer’s extraordinary six-decade career.

6 PM – From the Stacks: Readings from the Carnegie Library at Oklahoma Territorial Museum and Carnegie Library. April 18 – With Walker in Nicaragua: Or, Reminiscences of an Officer of the American Phalanx (1909), James Carson Jamison. Admission is free, and donations are always appreciated.

 

8 PM – KALO with Dirty Red & the Soulshakers at Blue Note. Doors at 8 pm and the party starts with Dirty Red & The Soulshakers followed by KALO at 1030 pm. Tableside catering by Eastside Pizza House.

11 AM – Chick-n-Beer 7th Anniversary Party. Help them celebrate 7 years of great beer and chicken wings. Get ready for a hot wing eating contest, giveaways, and a good time.

9 AM – Leave and Take Compost Event at Scissortail Park. Meet at Farmers Market at Scissortail Park Information Tent. Bring your compost materials from home and they’ll have free compost available for you to take for your personal gardens. They can accept: Produce scraps, Coffee grounds. Eggshells, Fresh plant matter, Cardboard, Toilet paper/paper towel rolls, Shredded paper, Dried leaves or dead plant matter. Please limit drop-offs to no more than 5 gallons.

 

9 AM – Myriad in Motion Free Yoga at Myriad Gardens. Bring a mat, water. Meet at Water Plaza Room. Instructors from YMCA. Want to stay fit and have fun? Check out FREE Yoga in the Myriad Botanical Gardens – a perfect place to relax and connect with nature. Every Tuesday at 6pm and Saturday at 9am, you can practice your fitness goals in a tranquil environment open to people of all levels. Oklahoma City’s downtown producer market is celebrating its fifth season, bringing the freshest produce and locally grown and crafted goods to our community. We invite you to make the Farmers Market at Scissortail Park part of your weekly shopping routine. Located at the corner of Oklahoma City Boulevard and South Robinson Avenue. FREE parking is available during market hours for vendors and shoppers directly north of the Park.

10 AM – Something to Grow About: Earth Day Native Plant and Seed Swap at Pawnee Bill Ranch and Museum. Gardeners and eco-enthusiasts will delight in the celebration of Earth Day at the Pawnee Bill Ranch on Saturday, April 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A native plant swap, a seed buffet, and loads of gardening tips, tricks, and activities will be a part of the “Something to Grow About” event. Join in sharing plants and seeds. Participants are encouraged to bring labeled seeds and plants for the swap. Agricultural experts will be available to teach about planting techniques, native pollinators, plants, and seeds. Visitors can learn to build a plant press, learn about soil types, and discover natural plant dyes. Children’s activities include a coloring table, craft table, and much more hands-on fun. Guests can enter the “Bug, Bird, and Bat House Contest!”

 

11 AM – “Glass and a Glass!” – Pendants, Magnets, and Keychains at Pioneer Woman Museum and Statue. Guests will create two custom items—either pendants, magnets, or keychains—included in the $25 registration fee. During the class, participants will also learn about the art of fused glass and try their hand at “inclusions” while enjoying complimentary drinks and snacks. Along with a wide array of colorful art glass, other materials such as frit, wire, dots, stringer, and copper sheets will be available. Additional items may be made and paid for during the event. “Glass and a Glass!” events are for ages 18 and up; no prior experience with glass is required to create original art. Have fun and get your sparkle on! The Pioneer Woman Museum will take all the reservations and collect the $25 fee. 11 AM – The Wonderful World of Upcycling Event at Myriad Gardens. Meet in Terrace Room. Member $5; Nonmember $7. Best for ages 5-12. Join us to kick off Earth Day celebrations by learning about an amazing process known as upcycling. Each participant will learn about upcycling and will get to create their very own egg carton creature.

6 PM – Heard on Hurd in Downtown Edmond. Join us every 3rd Saturday from March- October for the 11th season of Heard on Hurd. You’ll find live music, local shopping, and nearly 70 pop-up shops and food trucks. April Band Lineup: 6 pm Cherry Laurel, 7:20 Easier, 8:40 Chelsea Days.

 

6:30 PM – Oklahoma Children’s Theatre Fairytale Ball at Science Musuem of Oklahoma. Oklahoma Children’s Theatre presents “Night at the Fairytale Museum,” an enchanting family ball. Dress is black tie optional OR join as your favorite fairytale character or one from “Night at the Museum” like George Washington or Joan of Arc! After arrival pictures, children ages 5 and up will experience their own adventure dinner and play while adults enjoy a sit-down dinner and silent auction. 5:30 PM – The Oklahoma City Thunder will begin each home game of the 2024 NBA Playoffs with Thunder UP in the Park. This pregame event is a free, family-friendly festival at Scissortail Park plaza (S. Robinson and OKC Boulevard)

 

7:30 PM – KOSU Welcomes Beach Weather: Pineapple Sunrise The Tour at Beer City Music Hall. Soulful indie-pop band Beach Weather performs at Beer City Music Hall in OKC on April 21 with special guests, almost monday and Rec Hall.

 

8:30 PM – Tune in to cheer for our Thunder in round 1 of the playoffs!

6 PM – Sound Bath – Full Moon at Myriad Gardens. Meet at Park House. Class size is limited to 70 people. Join wellness practitioners Anna and Mark for a relaxing sound bath and meditation to celebrate the April Full Moon. A sound bath is a deeply immersive, full-body listening experience that intentionally uses sound with sound bowls and other instruments to invite gentle yet powerful therapeutic and restorative processes to nurture your mind and body. Please bring a blanket, pillow, and yoga mat for optimal comfort along with comfortable clothing. This event is FREE and open to the public. Class size is limited to 70 people. First-come, first-serve. Please arrive no later than 6 pm so we can provide a distraction-free environment for participants!

 

6 PM – Move Your ScissorTAIL – FREE Pickleball Class at Scissortail Park. Meet at Pickleball Courts, Lower Park. Courts sponsored by E.L. and Thelma Gaylord Foundation. Please join us for FREE Pickleball classes led by the YMCA. Learn the basics of the game, meet new people, and enjoy the beautiful weather here at Scissortail Park! 8:15 PM – Full Moon Bike Ride at Myriad Gardens. Meet at Seasonal Plaza. Route announced each night by Steve Schlegel. Bring your bike and join us every full moon for a 6-to 8-mile leisurely one-hour ride. Steve Schlegel of Schlegel Inspections will develop the route and lead the group. Lights and helmets are needed. There will be t-shirts and water bottles for sale. There is a $5 suggested donation which allows us to continue providing this fun community event. Don’t have a bike?
