Under Music Director Alexander Mickelthwate, the Oklahoma City Philharmonic continues to blend classical masterworks with contemporary programs — bringing exceptional orchestral music to audiences of all ages since 1988.

For more than three decades, the Oklahoma City Philharmonic has been enriching the cultural life of Oklahoma City through the power of live orchestral music. From timeless classical masterpieces and popular Pops performances to Discovery Family concerts and community outreach, the orchestra is one of the city’s premier performing arts organizations, bringing audiences together through unforgettable musical experiences.

Under the artistic leadership of Music Director Alexander Mickelthwate, the Oklahoma City Philharmonic continues to grow its impact both on and off the stage. Since joining the orchestra in 2018, Mickelthwate has brought an artistic vision that blends beloved classical works with contemporary compositions and programs inspired by Oklahoma’s rich history and diverse communities. He believes music should not only entertain but also connect, inspire and tell meaningful stories, a philosophy reflected throughout each concert season.

Originally from Frankfurt, Germany, Mickelthwate has conducted many of the world’s leading orchestras before making Oklahoma City his home. In addition to serving as Music Director of the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, he is Artist-in-Residence with the University of Central Oklahoma Symphony Orchestra, where he mentors aspiring musicians while encouraging artistic collaboration throughout the region. His passion for education and community engagement continues to strengthen Oklahoma’s vibrant arts community.

Founded in 1988, the Oklahoma City Philharmonic presents an exciting array of symphonic performances at the Civic Center Music Hall, while musicians engage with schools, community organizations, and special events throughout the metro. Whether welcoming longtime patrons or introducing first-time concertgoers to the orchestra, the Philharmonic remains dedicated to making exceptional music accessible, meaningful and inspiring for audiences of all ages.
