A crowdfunding campaign is underway for a new public art sculpture in the Plaza District.
The Sponsored by You project aims to raise $5,000, with the chosen sculpture artist or team due to debut their plans at the annual Plaza District Festival at the end of the month.
“Our campaign focus is a new piece of sculpture art that will be installed in the Plaza District for our community and guests alike to enjoy,” explains Cayla Lewis, Executive Director of the Plaza District Association.
The project comes hot on the heels of last year’s art fundraiser, which supported Plaza Walls, a rotating mural project that involved 20 artists creating 20 murals.
The ever-expanding entertainment space in Gatewood has enjoyed colorful and creative murals along its N Indiana wall, covering a variety of themes from local faces to nature over the last year. The project is set to continue for another year after securing a partnership with Google.
The Oklahoma Mural Syndicate has confirmed 22 artists will create different works for the next year. Opening the Mural Expo at the end of this month will be new murals on display in the Plaza District, including one by NYC graffiti writer and artist Wane COD on the wall of Saints Irish Pub.
Across the street from Saints, Kansas-based graphic designer and artist Chris Foxworth will debut his mural on the Everything Goes Dance wall. Both murals will run through January 2018.
Artists Dylan Bradway, Denise Duong, Yatika Fields and Holey Kids are also among the Mural Expo artists set to showcase their talents in the Plaza District over the next year.
The Plaza District Association’s call for bids from artists for the Sponsored by You project is open until Friday, September 15 – and donations can be made here.
