A bike shop, Capitol Co-Op, opened its doors in the Wheeler District March 22 – just in time for the start of the 2022 Wheeler Criterium season.

Capitol Co-Op offers a variety of bike accessories and nutritious snacks. Additionally, the shop has partnered with Rapha to offer local cyclists activewear.

“We’ve always wanted to be a part of the Wheeler District,” Capitol Co-Op owner Chad Hodges said. “Cycling has played a significant role in my life for many years, and I’m excited to share my passion with others, especially with us gearing up for this season of the Wheeler Criterium.”

The Wheeler Criterium began as an idea between Hodges and one of his friends. Their vision came to life in 2014 and found its home in the Wheeler District that same year. Last year, more than 100 cyclists gathered throughout the season to race through the streets of the Wheeler District.

This year, racing begins at 5:30 p.m. every Tuesday, and cyclists will compete through the spring and late summer months.

“It’s our goal to make racing more accessible,” Hodges said. “Traveling to distant locations to compete isn’t always an option, so we decided to start the Wheeler Crit right here in Oklahoma City.”

The bike shop is the latest addition to the Wheeler District, opening alongside Taco Nation, the Big Friendly and other establishments.

“We’re thrilled to officially welcome Capitol Co-Op to the Wheeler District,” Wheeler District Vice President of Development Ashley Terry said. “The Wheeler District community prioritizes pedestrians and cyclists, and both the Wheeler Crit and Capitol Co-Op represent the work we’re doing to further those efforts.”
