Hot cider pleases all of our senses.

Hot apple cider is one of my favorite things to have simmering on the stove throughout the season. For years, we hosted a halloween “come-and-go” party, and no matter what the weather was doing, the cider was flowing. The aroma wafting through the house carries with it a sense of nostalgia, signaling the start of fall and the celebrations ahead.

Spiced Cider:

  • 4 qts cider or juice
  • 1 qt cranberry juice
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 ½ Tbl cloves
  • Orange slices (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Bring liquids to a boil with brown sugar.
  2. Simmer for 15 minutes.
  3. Add spices and simmer an additional 10 minutes.
  4. For an added citrus flavor, top with orange slices.
  5. Serve warm.
  6. To store, take out the spices, put in covered pitcher and refrigerate. (Serves 25)
