The Polar Express Comes to the McKnight Center
All aboard for orchestra-fueled holiday memories!
With the holidays right around the corner, there’s nothing like putting on a classic movie to spread the Christmas cheer. But instead of watching it in your living room, head over to The McKnight Center at OSU, which is performing The Polar Express in concert with the Tulsa Symphony for a uniquely festive experience. On Thursday, Dec. 2 at 7:30 p.m., witness the magic of the screening and orchestra combination, as the Tulsa Symphony will perform Alan Silvestri’s score while the animated film takes place.
“The holidays are already a special time of the year, but celebrating with family, friends, and good music makes it more special,” said Mark Blakeman, The McKnight Center’s Marilynn and Carl Thoma Executive Director. “The Polar Express has already been a family favorite for years. Experiencing the movie on the big screen with an orchestra performing the music live creates another level of magic that will be a favorite family memory for years to come.”
While the orchestra crafts brilliant sounds of the season, audience members can expect a fully immersive movie and musical experience. “The intimate size of our theater means that every seat feels close to the action—even from the balcony, you’re only 100 feet from the stage, so it’s like the actors and musicians are performing just for you,” said Blakeman. “At the McKnight Center, we present only the very best artists to provide a world-class performance that Oklahomans can experience without traveling out of state. We are committed to the arts and believe that we provide a unique, drivable destination for music and performance lovers in the region.”
For Blakeman, the holiday shows at The McKnight Center offer a place of unity and spirit—while behind-the-scenes coronavirus precautions attempt to ensure that anyone can watch the musical magic in a safe environment. “The pandemic was a difficult time for everyone, but we’ve been diligent in our safety precautions and know that performances like these can bring everyone together again. We also think this performance is a perfect family-friendly memory-making opportunity, which is vastly important during this time of year.”
