Inside Boombox Beach Club: OKC’s New Indoor Beach, Bar and Volleyball Venue

A look inside the new OKC hotspot, Inside Boombox Beach Club, blending indoor beach volleyball, tropical cocktails and year-round sunshine.

It’s always sunny in Oklahoma City. Or, at least, it is at the city’s newest watering hole, where sandy volleyball courts share space with craft beer, fresh smoothies and tropical cocktails that sip like vacation. Welcome to Boombox Beach Club, a sprawling new volleyball facility in the Adventure District, where indoor and outdoor courts feel like a day at the beach, no matter the forecast.

The first of its kind in OKC, Boombox was born from a love for beach volleyball, showcased in a massive, warehouse-sized space with outdoor courts, and an indoor, climate-controlled “beach” lined with soft sand, lawn games and lounge chairs. And whether you’re playing volleyball or not, everyone is welcome at the on-site cafe and bar, overlooking the eight indoor courts.

The bar, while frills-free, serves up the kinds of drinks you’d expect to sip on a carefree seashore — like The Setter, a sweet and tangy blend of vodka, peach Schnapps, orange juice, cranberry and lime. Or The Ace, whose coconut rum, pineapple juice and grenadine tastes more like Hawaii than Oklahoma. Along with frozen drinks, they’re kinds of cocktails that taste like vacation, and even though I live just a couple of minutes down the road, my palate feels like I’m on an island, cool sand in my toes.

There’s also an impressively well-stocked array of craft beers and seltzers, including local ales like Lively Beerworks and Anthem Brewing, as well as canned cocktails and, aptly, beer from Hawaii’s Kona Brewing Co. There’s a curated food menu, with items like acai bowls, flatbreads and sandwiches designed to fuel a game of volleyball, while smoothies — like the Tropical Sunrise, with mango, strawberry and banana — lean into the beachy vibe.

What makes Boombox stand out is the immersive atmosphere of it all. Regardless if you’re playing volleyball, the layout of the state-of-the-art 70,000-square-foot space is unlike anything in OKC, instantly transporting visitors to sunny shores. Outside, six volleyball courts are surrounded by walls, shielded from wind and excess sun, while the indoor area is filled with colorful Adirondack chairs, cornhole, ping pong and graffiti-clad boomboxes. Tropical cocktail in hand, it’s a day at the beach—without ever leaving OKC.
