All Wrapped Up

Flaming Lips front man joins OKC artists to raise money for the homeless

Flaming Lips front man Wayne Coyne has teamed up with The Curbside Chronicle to help support people who are transitioning out of homelessness.

Coyne has joined local artists Gayle Curry, Jack Fowler, Steven Paul Judd, Natalie Kent, Peggy White, Tiffany McKnight, Lauren Miller, Edgardo George and Lance King, Ashley Dawn and Sean Vali to design fundraising holiday wrapping paper.

Featuring designs ranging from traditional to funky holiday themes, the wrapping paper will be sold by vendors representing The Curbside Chronicle – a Homeless Alliance program that provides employment opportunities for those who are homeless.

Coyne, who had his first public visual art exhibition in 2015, has combined elements from several of his band’s album covers with a holiday twist for his design. His wrapping paper will be sold in a separate package.

"The wrapping paper is a great way to make your gifts extra-special this year,” says Ranya O'Connor, director of The Curbside Chronicle. "It features unique local art, and directly supports people who are working their way out of homelessness. You’ll not only be giving a gift to your friend or family member, but you’ll be giving the gift of empowerment to someone in Oklahoma City who is working to make their situation better."

Curbside Chronicle vendors wear green vests and sell at events, on sidewalks and public spaces and at intersections throughout Oklahoma City. All proceeds from packages purchased through vendors will go directly to that individual, who is working his or her way out of homelessness.

Holiday paper also will be sold at various stores, where all purchases will go directly to The Curbside Chronicle and its mission to employ and empower men and women transitioning out of homelessness in the metro.
