Founded in 1988, the Oklahoma City Philharmonic (OKCPHIL) has been a cornerstone of cultural life in Oklahoma City for over 35 years. Since Alexander Mickelthwate became Music Director in 2018, the OKCPHIL has continued to grow in artistic excellence and community engagement, building on a strong foundation and the ongoing dedication of its musicians, staff, and supporters. OKCPHIL offers a wide range of performances: Classics Concerts featuring symphonic masterworks, Orchestral Pops blending popular and classical styles, Discovery Family Concerts for young audiences, and community events, many of which are free. Dedicated to enriching cultural life, the OKCPHIL educates future generations, entertains diverse audiences, and promotes community growth through the arts. Collaborations with organizations like OKC Ballet and Canterbury Voices highlight its versatility and local engagement. The orchestra reaches a broad audience—from children aged 4–13 at Family Concerts, to young professionals in the Overture Society, and adults of all ages. Education and outreach are central, including the Society of Strings, a program that helps adults develop string instrument skills in two 8-week sessions. Free outdoor concerts at Scissortail Park invite residents to enjoy music in a relaxed, scenic setting. The organization is powered by 17 full-time staff, over 70 local musicians, and guest artists throughout the season. This team brings music to life both on stage and through school outreach.
