The gala serves as a fundraiser and the centerpiece event during Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, and it’s the biggest event for the new chamber yet.
The Greater Oklahoma City Asian Chamber of Commerce will hold its biggest event to date, A Night in Asia Gala, May 19 from 6-11 p.m. at La Bella Event Center in Oklahoma City.
The inaugural gala will celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month by highlighting the Asian community’s rich and diverse cultures and the Greater OKC Asian Chamber’s mission to support the Asian community in the Greater Oklahoma City metro area.
Scarlet Le-Cao, OKC Asian Chamber founding president, said the chamber hopes to raise about $25,000-$30,000.
“Our goal is basically to create more funds to run more educational programs, especially for students and young entrepreneurs and professionals,” Le-Cao said. “That’s our goal, more educational programs.”
The gala comes on the heels of the chamber selecting its first executive director, Cassandra Kalancha.
Le-Cao said the gala is the highlight of the celebrations of AIPA Heritage Month, with more events planned throughout the month as well as several that have already taken place.
The gala will feature cuisine from different Asian cultures as well as live entertainment.
“It’s going to be an epic night of food,” Le-Cao said.
