Third Thursdays Return at OKCMOA

Museum opening roof terrace year-round

The OKC Museum of Art is restarting its Third Thursday event with a newly expanded program offering something for all ages – and preparing to open its roof terrace each month.

Third Thursday will offer a full bar on the roof terrace, a special menu at the Museum Café, live music and access to the galleries and special exhibitions.

Opening on May 17, Third Thursday: My Life/My Movie will offer a veritable feast of activities to suit all ages, including music from Adam and Kizzie, animation experimentation with artist Nicole Emmons-Willis and access to the museum’s galleries including special exhibitions The New Art and Apichatpong Weerasethakul.

“This year, we will be featuring an exciting, activity-filled event once a month, similar to our Murder Mystery Nights and Night of Hygge events,” says Becky Weintz, communications director. “With activities going on throughout the building, Third Thursday will offer opportunities for both adults and families to enjoy the museum.”

The museum has made a practice of staying open late every Thursday with a regular roof terrace event throughout the summer. But beginning in May, Third Thursday will run throughout the year, with events on the museum’s roof terrace (weather permitting) and activities throughout the museum.

Tracy Truels, OKCMOA director of learning and engagement, said it will be a chance for visitors to experience something new, a prime opportunity to “interact with local artists and enjoy the museum’s latest exhibitions. We will also have excellent food and drinks and live music.”

This year’s program is supported by Love’s Travel Stops and driven by the ever-expanding downtown area, according to Jenny Love , Love’s VP of communications. “We believe that the arts are a vital part of a vibrant downtown, and are committed to increasing access for everyone in our community,” she says.

Next month’s Third Thursday on June 21 is Strike a Pose, inspired by the upcoming exhibition Isabelle de Borchgrave: Fashioning Art from Paper. The museum will continue extended hours with reduced admission every Thursday. More information on future museum Third Thursday events can be found here.
