Chill Out By Your Outdoor Fire

As the weather starts to cool off, make plans to enjoy it around an outdoor fireplace or a fire pit that welcomes friends and family to your home.

405 Magazine’s Evie Klopp Holzer recently visited with landscape architect Brent Wall, director of LAUD Studio, about what he considers when helping people design impeccable outdoor spaces to go with their homes.

First, he said to consider the overall design of the home and make sure the outdoor spaces coordinate. Also consider proper ventilation and safety, depending on whether the fireplace is gas- or wood-burning.

Once you’ve kept the design consistent with your home design, the possibilities are nearly endless — you can incorporate a fireplace into a patio or have it stand alone outside. A fire pit surrounded by comfortable seating in the backyard can offer a perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine in the chilly fall air. Add a TV in a covered area to watch a movie or football game, and include an outdoor kitchen with a grill. You can design in any style and with all kinds of materials — stone, concrete, adobe, brick, to name a few. Wood elements nearby also add an inviting look.

Add lighting and incorporate plants and flowers, and you’ve got the ideal getaway to entertain and enjoy this fall.
